I am a Kindergarten teacher at a STEM Academy in a low-income and high poverty school district. I currently have 23 kinders, and half of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students face challenges both at home and in the classroom. As a kindergarten teacher, I know that I am setting a foundation for them to become lifelong learners, and one of my goals is to be able to provide my students with multiple learning opportunities through several methods.
Our students are encouraged to strive in collaboration, technology, and self-achievement.
My students have shown me time and time again how resilient children truly are. In return for their eagerness and curiosity, I would like for them to have the tools they need to be successful every day.
I want to provide the best classroom environment that I can for my students today, tomorrow, and for years to come. I am committed to my students' learning. I hope my classroom reflects the dedication I have towards my students' educational career.
My Project
Our Kinders have been sharing STEM materials. With their growing knowledge and fondness of science and engineering, expanding our STEM station would be a gift. My students have shown great interest in building and would like to further expand their abilities with additional materials. Items we need to increase our STEM abilities are microscopes and building materials. Microscopes and building materials allow for my students to deepen their knowledge on how shapes compose the world around them.
The school year is not yet over as now is the time that my students are discovering their interests, and it is because of their interests that I am seeking for support to further engage and cater to their interests.
Having microscopes during this time will allow for me to further teach about weather, Spring, and animals, showing them how similar we are to plants under several layers. They would also be able to use these materials as we learn about our various science units throughout the year.
These materials will benefit any student in my class for years to come. Having these materials for the start of the school year only means that we can dig deeper into STEM.
