Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten at a public school in urban LA County. I have 26 lively, 5 year olds. My kindergarten students come from various socioeconomic levels, various ethnicities. Some are English language learners and some are students with special needs. Many receive free or reduced lunch. All are excited about being in Kindergarten. For some this is their very first time in school as they have never been to preschool. All are excited to learn and be at school each day.
My Project
Kindergarten is a magic time when students are excited about learning. They love learning through play and by using hands on manipulatives and games. They are very social and enjoy doing activities in groups. I am always looking for activities that reinforce the standards I am teaching but in a fun way.
Albert Einstein believed that "Play is the highest form of research" and I agree with him.
Math is best taught with concrete items before it is conceptualized. The items I am asking for will help reinforce the Math standard: counting and recognizing numbers but will do it in a fun way. Magnetic numbers will help me as I teach my math lessons - they can also be used in our learning stations by the students. They can use the magnetic numbers to build number sentences in partners. The "unlock it number math game" is a set of plastic locks that have number words on each one. The matching key has a number on it. By matching the number word seven with the number 7 - the key opens the lock. This again is a great activity for my students to use in our learning stations. The last item I am asking for is a set of puzzles that when correctly put in number sequence make a picture. My kids LOVE puzzles and love using magnets so I know they will be thrilled to have these items in our class. Thank you for your support!
