Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I, K-5 magnet school that educates almost 700 students each year. The students at my school come from a wide range of family dynamics. Some live in traditional households, while others live with single parents or extended family. My students' economic situations are just as varied as their family dynamics and more than sixty percent of our school qualifies for free lunch. We have a hardworking staff and hardworking students that have resulted in being named as a School Of Distinction for the second year in a row.
A large percentage of our school population consists of English language learners.
Seventy-five percent of my class speaks more than one language and often English is not spoken when they are at home. Regardless of these factors, every one of my students always possesses a passion for learning, exploring, and creating.
My Project
Every year my 20 tiny humans and I go through a lot consumable supplies! We need to restock a variety of different items to help us with our learning.
As a school that is implementing AVID strategies, we stress organization so many of the items in this project will help students to become organized learners.
Composition books will be used as interactive notebooks for literacy and math and two pocket folders will be used for writing and organizational folders.
Every student needs their own place to organize their tools for learning! The pencil boxes will provide students will a place to store their every day supplies as well as specialized tool box with important math and phonics tools. The file folders will be used to organize take home information and learning games. Sharpies and highlighters get a lot of use and need to replaced regularly. We use these markers throughout the day - for projects, writing assignments, math, and phonics.
