Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our classroom come from very diverse populations. Our school is located in California and considered Title I, with about 70% of students currently receiving free or reduced rate lunch. More than half of the students at our school come from low-income housing. We also have a population of students from military families. The students in my Kindergarten class are very energetic, loving, social, and interested in all things school and Pokemon related. There are very many factors about school that make us happy, and among them are hands-on projects and experiments, becoming "mathematicians", and Go-Noodle dance parties!
The students in my class are only 5-6 years old, but are already filled with curiosity, wonder, and are ready to take on whatever Kindergarten throws at them.
I feel so privileged that others value their educational needs and genuine love for learning as much as I do and I am thrilled to see where these sweet, small children take themselves.
My Project
My students have shown me just how much they have grown in a short time through their ability to complete centers with care and genuine interest. In response to their hard work, I would love to make their centers more engaging by saying goodbye to the black and white word work centers, whose pieces tear and fall apart, and hello to colored, durable materials!
My students are proud of every small success, as they should be, and what better way can I support this as their teacher than by continuing to give them the interactive tools to continue growing?
With colored ink, a paper cutter, and a laminator I am excited to be able to give my students not only word work pieces, but also colored visual instructions, and the opportunity for them to publish their digital work... in color! The Eggspert Quiz gaming system can make their assessments with me more engaging in small group instruction; we are a competitive group this year, that is a fact!
With organizational tools like paper organizers, privacy boards, and re-usable, laminated, materials, I will be able to foster their independence and help them grow academically as well. I can already see them navigating through the drawers and files to choose an activity that interests and challenges them. My students love hands-on learning and with these tools, I can continue to provide hands-on materials that they can manipulate independently, at the next level.
Thank you for considering to support our "Kinderpendent Learners" project!
