Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school services students in grades K-5. My students come from a low social economic background with over 90% of all students qualifying for free lunch. We have a high percentage of English Language Learners. They are happy, excited to learn, and hard-working, but many come with very limited experiences. Many parents have limited resources and are not able to provide their students with books, toys, or activities that encourage their learning in math, science, language arts, or technology.
My Project
Now that we will be full day Kindergarten, my students will actually have time to explore, manipulate, and learn from activities that challenge them to think through play. They will have the opportunity to practice and apply the skills they have learned through hands-on activities.
These activities will be used in small group centers and the students will get to rotate through these fun and engaging activities.
With a big influence being placed on STEM and STEAM, it is important for my students to have access to these activities as an introduction to math and science which will hopefully spark their interest in math and science and encourage a love of learning in these subjects.
The Magnetic Building Sets, Soft and Quiet Building Blocks, Visual Place Value Magnetic Frames and Magnetic Base 10 Sets will give my students a break from paper-pencil activities and give them a hands-on approach to problem-solving. The Create-A-Burger Sequence Stacker and Fairly Tales Problem Solving STEM Kits will help their critical thinking skills through play.
