Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Physical activity during recess and lunch are a great way for energetic kindergarten students to constructively leverage all their energy. With the addition of a new Kindergarten class this year, we now have over 60 students who play together on our small playground.
With a soccer ball, a red rubber ball, two swings, a small climbing structure and three tricycles, we are exuding a lot of energy and creativity to keep them busy and active as well as safe and respectful of others.
Waiting for a turn on the tricycle and using them safely (look forward, don't crash, leave space between you and other vehicles, wait for pedestrians, etc.) are life lessons, plus it's excellent motor skill development!
Our school has about 85% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Most of the students are from immigrant families and many parents have not graduated from high school, let alone college. They love their kids and want the best for them in the future. They donate snacks everyday and volunteer in class and by preparing materials at home, but they just can't afford to buy us a new tricycle!
I'm asking you to fund the purchase of one more sturdy tricycle. Not only is this one of our students favorite activity, but it is a perfect outlet for our active little students.
With very steady and not always gentle use, the Childcraft 14" tricycles have been incredibly reliable (they have already taken the abuse of several years of kindergarten recess.)
Along with our current toys plus the supply of sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, and beanbags that we've already bought, we should be able to keep everyone entertained in a safe and constructive way for years to come!
