Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sacramento is one of the most diverse cities in the country, and my kindergarten classroom reflects that. My 26 students come to me with a variety of experiences, which enriches our classroom for all students.
Our Title I school is small, close-knit, and urban.
Roughly two-thirds of our school population qualifies for free/reduced-price lunch. My kindergartners teach me just as much as I teach them. I strive to create a classroom in which all students are valued and have a sense of belonging. I have a great group of kids!
My Project
The research is clear about the importance of recess. It is a crucial and necessary component of a child’s development, yet it is disappearing across the country in favor of increased academic time. Playing at recess can make children more attentive and productive during class, increase students' problem-solving skills through interaction with peers, and improve fitness. Tricycle use is an important part of this play time, but sadly our playground has none.
Can you help my students reap the benefits of active play by adding tricycles to our playground?
Exploring, risk-taking, fine and gross motor development-- all of these important developmental tasks can be nurtured through the use of tricycles.
