I work in a Kindergarten classroom in a culturally diverse, high poverty community.
My students come to Kindergarten with enthusiasm and an excitement to learn but quite often do not have the resources or tools at home to support them, therefore making their experiences at school even more important.
My Project
I am requesting 4 Tag Readers to supplement a class set of Tag reading books I received by participating in a program called Read for My School sponsored by We Give Books, an online literacy advocacy group. The books are amazing tools that are both exciting and educational but require the Tag System to be fully functional. They will primarily be used for independent reading in literacy stations.
This resource will also allow my students to use technology to enhance learning. The Tag Readers will not only provide my students with an exciting way to learn, it will also provide them with an introduction to the technology they will come to face throughout their educational career as well as in their everyday lives. I feel that the technology offered by the Leap Frog Tag Reading System will reinforce the reading foundation skills that students need in order to be academically successful, thus fostering within them a LOVE of reading.
One of the greatest gifts I can give my students is a love of reading!
