Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is filled with kindergarten students who come from varied educational backgrounds. Some have attended preschool, a few have attended transitional kindergarten and the majority have never been to school.
All the children are excited about being kindergartners!
They know that kindergarten is a special place and I strive to create a kindergarten program that will meet their needs. Although I have been doing this for over 25 years, each new year is a challenge and an opportunity to have my best year yet!
My Project
As I think I have mentioned in every proposal I write, I am a somewhat reluctant user of technology in the classroom. I believe in a hands on, developmental approach to kindergarten and early learning.
However, the one iPad Pro I received last year has been wonderful and I would love to have a second one for student use.
I am wary of letting the children use the only one we have now, because I so depend on it for daily use. We are exploring animals now and being able to show them a cheetah in the wild is truly eye opening! They love doing movement activities with GoNoodle! It is so nice to have such a large and portable screen.
Children would be able to access some of these videos and books in a learning station during center time. They are learning to access items in Padlet and through Reading Rainbow. Our kindergarten students are working in collaborative groups to do research on habitats. The additional iPad Pro would allow them to present their findings to the whole group. Most of what kindergarten students do with technology is teacher driven. Having an iPad in their learning station would allow them more independence while still allowing teacher supervision.
