The school is located in an urban community, with a high rate of poverty. We have up to 30 students in every classroom each year. My goal is that the students become a community of learners and help each other grow. I try to teach my students through many different learning styles. We use hands-on tools, technology, books, videos, and more. We work in partners and small groups regularly, and students really work together to help each other be successful. My students come from a variety of home situations, so they are learning academic and social skills in all subjects. When my students go home, they do not all get the same academic support. This makes it extremely important to do anything I can during the school day to help them foster the love of learning.
My Project
This math kit includes whole group lessons, small group lessons and math game materials for Kindergarten. I would like to get this kit to share with the Kindergarten teachers at my school. These lessons are engaging and fun.
We can help our youngest students build a strong understanding of Number Sense, and that will continue with them for the rest of their math lives.
If I can help our students master the skills they need at this level, they will be more successful in future grades. We can use this kit with all of the Kindergartners, and in small groups. By having these materials made already, we will be able to focus on reviewing the data and planning lessons that match the needs of all students.
