Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher at Guadalupe Elementary School located in the Excelsior District. This year our class, with the help of some scientists from Stanford, had the opportunity to watch caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies. The children experienced "hands on" science by feeding the caterpillars, watching them form a chrysalis, and then watching the emergence of a butterfly. The children will share this story with their parents on Science Night. I would like to extend this experience into Literacy Day. I would like to give each child, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The children can take this book home to read to their parents which reaffirms the lessons from science while encouraging them to read. We have created a lot of excitement and momentum with this science project and I will like to keep that momentum going with a book to take home. Many thanks for the opportunity to keep our children motivated to learn!
