This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
On any given day when you walk in my classroom, you would see my eager students sitting on the carpet using white boards and markers to support blending, spelling and math lessons. My students come from diverse cultural and language backgrounds and thrive from learning from each other.
Because of distance learning, my students are missing prime learning experiences in a classroom setting.
Since the students are now learning from home, they do not have basic classroom supplies and manipulatives that we would normally use to support instruction.
My Project
Having these supplies available at home will give my students a sense of normalcy during this challenging time. My students can practice writing, spelling and illustrating on the dry erase boards. Just like in our classroom, they can be creative using water colors to make pictures in their journal and use Play-Doh to make letters and shapes. My students also love to color so colored pencils and coloring books will be a great resource.
My students enjoy writing, drawing, and creating art work and I want to give them the opportunity to continue doing so at home with their families.
I check in with my students weekly on Zoom and they are always excited to share the work they have completed from their packets. These additional materials will enhance the distance learning experience and give my students the feel of being back in our classroom again.
