Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten at an elementary school in the Lower East Side of Manhattan that serves a culturally diverse, underprivileged population. I would like to foster a joy of reading in all genres, including non-fiction, in my students. I would like to have access to Weekly Reader, a kindergarten level "newspaper" that the children can read and enjoy. The children will be able to read about a variety of seasonal non-fiction topics, and we will be able to continue learning about those topics through supplementary classroom explorations. Additionally, the children will be able to take their newspapers home to share with their families.
