I teach Kindergarten students in a New York City Public School. My school is a Title I School. The children come from many different backgrounds. Some are new to the country and some participate in the ESL (English as a Second Language) Program. The children are taught Balanced Literacy (i.e. Shared Reading, Read Aloud, Independent Reading, and Guided Reading), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Gym.
Since a lot of the children come from homes where English is not the primary language, we need to build their English Language skills in school. A wonderful way of accomplishing this task is to have many opportunities for the children to learn the letters of the vowels through many different strategies. The children need to see, feel and use the letters in order to understand how to put letters and sounds together. By providing different games in the class, the children will feel comfortable learning about vowels.
The children need materials such as Vowel Combination Puzzles to help decode words by using their sounds, Short Vowel Sounds 3-In-A-Row Game Set which helps the children match the letter to the sound of a word, Vowel Sounds Instant Learning Center which children have to find the missing vowels, Read and Write Phonics Practice Boards which the children get to practice reading, spelling, and writing short vowels sounds, Read and Slide Phonics Cards which helps the children build their phonics skills, Vowel Sounds Activity Kit which helps children with their short and long vowel sounds, Middle Sounds Instant Learning Center which the children have to identify the middle sounds in words, and Vowel Sounds Phonics Box which the children have to identify vowel sounds and build the words.
What a great opportunity to help children build their Vowel Sounds in Kindergarten! You will help Kindergarten children become skilled in learning how to read words! With these wonderful literacy games, the children will have every chance to build their Vocabulary skills in the classroom by sounding out unknown words. Thanks for helping our children grow!
