Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a dual-immersion language magnet. This is only the second year of the program being opened, and the first year for our classrooms, so we continue to work to gather the resources and materials to support our students.
Every day I have the opportunity to teach 44 eager kindergarten students that come from various backgrounds all over the district.
My students attend a full-day dual-immersion program where half of the group are with me in a Spanish-only classroom in the morning, while the other half are in their English-only classroom. After lunch, the classes switch, and I teach the second group.
More than 50% of our students come from low-income families. They are creative and inspirational, and encourage me to give them my very best every day. My priority is to create an inclusive, culturally-rich, and engaging environment for all my students so that they develop a deep love of learning.

One of the hardest parts of being a Spanish-only classroom is finding high-quality materials that teach in Spanish.
OSMO is one of the few programs that are available in Spanish! With just 5 Osmo Genius Kits the children in our dual-immersion kindergarten program will be able to take turns during our center time to learn concepts of math and technology in Spanish while also having lots of fun! With the coding software and manipulatives, my students will have the opportunity to learn problem solving and coding/programming skills in a hands-on way.
