I am writing this proposal in hopes of replacing a home center that I lost due to Hurricane Katrina.
Interactive play to 5 year olds are life long lessons. They learn to share and work together. Leadership potential is brought out as well as social skills through oral expression. Students emulate roles at home which can be insightful to a teacher who may be having problems with a student.
Students in K learn through play. Having pretend foods and dress up clothes teaches skills such as food groups and gender roles. A tool center allows for creativity through building.
Many of the students are in single parent households and through role play activities they can be exposed to family life with two parents.
The home center I would like to replace would have a stove, sink, microwave, dishes, pretend food, table, a baby doll center, dress up clothes, and a tool set.
All of these skills are so important to 5 year olds who learn social skills through interactive play. Also real toys which make no sounds when being played with and require imagination can enhance learning of math and reading skills.
