This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a public Kindergarten classroom filled with eighteen eager and enthusiastic students who are ready to learn. Though these children are faced with a plethora of challenges including poverty, and homelessness they put their best foot forward everyday they attend school. Despite what may be going on at home or around them, these students are filled with joy, eagerness to learn, and anticipation of the next educational challenge. They push through challenges and inspire me to be a better teacher everyday.
Each child in my classroom deserves to have access to developmentally appropriate resources in the classroom.
I want to be able to keep my classroom engaging for all the students and I want to be able to help them enjoy learning even more than they do now!
My Project
In Kindergarten, we focus on early literacy skills for a significant part of our school day. Kindergarten introduces children to the world of literature, stories, plots, a variety of genres, new vocabulary, decoding etc. A listening center would not only provide these same benefits to the children, but it will also give the students a chance to be independent learners while diving into a new book! A listening center provides the students with an opportunity to look closely at a text while tracking the words, and exploring new ones too!
