Help me give my students engaging social studies activities that will help them learn about US symbols, give them access to educational literacy resources and interactive maps so they can learn about the world around them.
Kindergarten students come to me at the beginning of each school year with wide-eyed wonder. Since my school is in one of the poorest cities in Las Vegas, many of them have never been to preschool and many of them don't know how to hold a pencil, let alone know their A-B-C's and 1-2-3's. Even though they come to me with those deficits, they are eager and ready to learn, and are so excited to start school!
Teaching kindergarten is an honor and a privilege.
I cannot adequately express how wonderful it is to see a child's face light up when they read their first word! Or when they have held my pet tarantula for the first time! Or when they have learned how to conduct scientific experiments. Or see their excitement as they watch their very first plant grow. I get to see these "firsts" each and every school year, and I am so proud to see their progression. They leave my classroom knowing how to read, write, calculate, experiment, explore, and inquire. I love knowing that their educational career and pathway to success starts with me, and I take that responsibility very seriously!
Our current social studies curriculum is decades old, and I am seeking ways to make my lessons and activities more engaging by adding interactive activities and materials for my students to work with. I will accomplish this by designing learning stations in which students can use the books, games, and materials in a fun way. My hope is that my students will learn about the United States as well as other countries in order to promote an appreciation for our country as well as building cultural awareness for people around the world.
These educational materials will help my students build essential skills such as reading comprehension, build foundational language skills, improve problem solving and critical thinking in order to help them master their social studies content standards.
My students will greatly benefit from these amazing resources! I want my students to get excited about social studies and build a love for learning about the world around us! Thank you!
