Can you imagine living in paradise with no books to read? Our community is very limited in learning resources. The kindergarten teachers at my school are requesting a set of non-fiction little books to meet our newly implemented common core state standards.
Our school is Title I and we have 100 kindergarten students enrolled in 4 classes.
They are enthusiastic emergent readers who can't get enough non-fiction books to read. The local library is limited with leveled reader books and our school has no library. Our current curriculum that is implemented at our school has limited non-fiction leveled readers. Most families have limited access to technology and literacy.
My Project
Access to non-fiction leveled readers will increase student learning to meet the common core standards and expectations. Our 4 kindergarten classrooms will be well equipped with these requested resources. Our goal is to increase reading fluency and content knowledge. Having leveled readers available will allow the teachers to differentiate to various reading levels in our classes.
The common core standards requires 70% non-fiction text based teaching and learning.
The requested resources will meet the standards and provide academic success for every student.
