Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title 1 campus. This is a designation based on the number of low-income students who are considered at-risk for school achievement. To be considered a Title 1 school, a minimum of 40% of the students must qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Kindergarten is an exciting year for students full of new learning experiences!
Students develop a wide range of skills in kindergarten, including physical, social, emotional, language and literacy, and thinking (cognitive) skills. Kindergarten, students begin very basic curriculum in all subjects, including science, social studies, and the arts; but the most important academic topics will be literacy (reading and writing) and math, which underly everything else to come.
My Project
A kindergarten classroom needs a collection of hands-on learning materials that help young students understand various topics. Books and print materials are imperative in kindergarten when the students are mastering letters and working on their reading skills. Headphones are needed so students can listen to stories, listen to a recording of themselves reading, as well as listen to phonological games. Magnetic letters are needed for alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness. Math materials such as blocks, counters, and linking cubes, are equally useful, as they allow students to practice their ability to count and measure. Scoop rockers help support flexible learning while reading and working. A kindergarten space should give students access to an array of educational tools.
