Kindergarten Students Need CD Players for Listening Station
My students need individual cd players and an AC adaptor for our listening station in order to further their vocabulary development as well as their reading skills.
Have you ever wondered how young children develop such a large vocabulary at such a young age? It's from being surrounded by language and books!
My students are a group of kindergarteners who live in a very typical suburban town.
We have a wide range of families from economically disadvantaged to upper middle class. I have a classroom with two children with special needs, one in particular who is in my room for language development. I also have several students in which English is their second language.
My Project
The resources I'm requesting are individual CD players for our listening station. As tape cassettes have been phased out, it is becoming difficult to find books on tape, which are the only types of listening stations our school can provide. I am requesting 1 set of 4 players, as 4 students utilize this station at a time. The ac adapter would greatly lessen the cost of having to replace batteries all the time.
The individual players would help me differentiate my instruction by being able to provide different texts at different levels for each student to choose. They also would not be wasting time rewinding tapes or coming up to me while I'm working with a small group to "fix" a tape that has been pulled out of it's case. By providing more listening time, my students would be able to experience more language therefore increasing their vocabulary skills.
Since kindergarten is a child's first experience of school it is important that their learning be engaging, fun, and challenging.
Having the ability to provide different types of literature at one time will greatly increase the interest level, rigor, and engagement of my students; thus planting the seeds of our goal of creating life long learners.
