My students need these Phone Retro Handsets to record their stories on their iPads. These handsets are easy to hold, filter out background noise, and help students focus on their voice for recording.

My Students
My students live and play in a lovely suburb of Indiana. They are eager to learn, explore, and work together. We keep busy all day with a variety of activities that encompass individual work, partner work, and group work. Our classroom rule is "Do the Right Thing!" We support each other in all of our work by encouraging, helping, and assisting each other.
Although we are in a middle-class suburb with award ranking schools, we are the third lowest funded school district in the state!
It is for that reason that I am seeking funding from the educational philanthropist community at DonorsChoose.org to provide a variety of materials for my students.
My Project
In our school district, we are fortunate to be working in a 1:1 environment. This means each student has an iPad. We have the devices, we have the apps, now we need the accessories to allow us to be true storytellers.
These Pop Socket handsets will allow my kindergarten students to record their stories with ease.
We currently have one handset in our classroom. This handset is shared by 21 students. We use the handset as a microphone. We have several apps that are perfect for capturing our stories (Shadow Puppet EDU, Seesaw, Draw & Tell)! The additional handsets will allow the students to record their voice with virtually no background noise, will allow their voices to be loud and clear, and just by having something physical with which they can speak into, will focus their attention on their story.
Students digitally create their stories in many ways. It can be as simple as taking pictures of each page of a book they have written during Writers Workshop and recording what they have written to drawing pictures and recording their story in the Draw & Tell app. Part of the magic is hearing them read their stories. Something as simple as using this handset as a microphone will elevate the quality of their digital story.
Kindergarteners are storytellers too! Please consider helping to fund this project to build their confidence and allow us to share their stories with the world! We will share our digital stories with our families, our school community, and via Twitter.
