We are a busy and diverse group of kindergartners in the Southern California area. Our school is considered high poverty, and many of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I am fortunate to teach an amazing group of students who are diverse in so many ways. We come from extremely diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Even though we are so different in many ways, we have built an awesome community of learners who thrive and learn together in a cohesive learning environment.
My Project
We are a STEM-focused school and my students love to explore the world around them. We were able to obtain a light table through DonorsChoose.org and would like to add more manipulatives for imaginative play.
Incorporating translucent building materials, numbers and letters, play animals and people for our light table will enhance science, literacy, math, and language skills in a fun and playful ways.
These manipulatives will help in developing cognitive skills as students interact with the materials on the table in ways that encourage them to count, organize, match, and label objects.
As students explore the materials with peers, they will develop imaginative, cooperative, and language skills.
