Help me give my students a UV light sanitizer, 4 books, art supplies, birthday celebration bookmarks, a cell phone stand and a teacher planner for the teacher.
I teach kindergarten in a Title I northern California elementary school where about 50% of our student population qualifies to receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. This fall I know I will have a diverse group of kindergarten students. Some will be second language learners, some will have attended preschool or TK for part of the year and for some, it will be their first experience in an academic setting. Their home life, experiences and thus background knowledge will be a huge factor in their readiness to learn foundational skills.
Kindergarteners are an inquisitive group of young people who are learning how to make new friends and listen to others and their feelings, to have a growth mindset as they begin to read, explore numbers, and problem-solve in both math and science in small, collaborative, differentiated groupings with an emphasis on personalized learning as part of our daily workshops.
My Project
I am requesting a UV wand sanitizer, books, art supplies and cell phone holder. My Kindergarten students have started their first year of formal education in a Distance Learning "classroom". We meet daily for a whole group morning meeting and small groups for our reading block and math block. One of the small group rotations in both reading and math involve papers that they complete at home and return to school each week. Another of the small group reading rotations includes reading to themselves books checked out to them from our classroom library. The UV wand will be used every other week to sanitize the returned books and packets.
The books will be enjoyed and used during our reading block independent "read to self" rotation and the art supplies will be used as we incorporate STEAM activities into our math rotations.
We will use the pom pom balls and pipe cleaners for counting collections, engineering challenges and minute to win it games.
The phone stand will support my teaching from home as I often use my phone to show my students notes, diagrams and of course, fun music to get our wiggles out. I also many times have to "google" to find the answer to their questions!
