Kindergarten Recess: An Essential Part of the Day

Help me give my students equipment to play with during recess on the kindergarten playground. We are going to keep everything stored in a ball cage so we don't lose any of it.

My Students

Our students are a diverse group who love to learn and have lots of energy! They come from many different cultures and backgrounds and come to school excited to see each other every day.

An important part of kindergarten is outdoor, social play.

We love to get our wiggles out so we can be more focused on learning inside the classroom. Playing also allows us to practice our social skills and make new friends. We love our time at recess!

My Project

Our students have 30 minutes per day for recess. Their current play area is starting to feel outdated and can become boring for the students' developing minds and bodies. Having new materials is a good start as we work to refresh and redesign their play area.

Research shows that students need an outlet for their physical energy.

They also need the time and space for unstructured play to build social skills, navigate low-level conflict, and cooperate with peers. Having new equipment will allow them to interact with each other in a fun, creative way. And of course, we know that exercise is essential for their health.
