Our Kindergarten class is full of energetic, creative thinkers who thrive in a learning environment that inspires literacy and independence. My students attend a Title I school in Oakland, California with a school-wide free breakfast and lunch program. Many of my students come from families and communities that have experienced some form of trauma and often have difficulty coming to school.
Our school has an increasing amount of newcomer families, which continue to make our school an amazing and diverse community where all are welcome.
My Project
Throughout my years teaching, I have learned that having text present and accessible in the classroom from day one promotes literacy and an environment where students strive to become better readers. With these leveled books in our classroom, students will be able to begin their education in a text rich space. I believe that students should have their own library, learning to choose books that are just right for their reading level.
My Kindergarten students come to school excited and ready to learn, and they deserve the best materials we can offer.
Please help us build our classroom library and start our year off strong!
