My students are among the smartest, brightest, loving and most inquisitive students out there! I have the privilege of teaching kindergarten! Each child enters my room with a different story and background, and my job is to bring them in as my own and create a loving and safe environment for them to learn and grow. My classroom is full of 25 enthusiastic, engaged kindergartners. They come to school eager to learn new things every day. We are constantly pushing forward to meet curriculum guidelines and benchmarks.
My Project
One of my students' favorite parts of kindergarten is learning to read. They are so proud of themselves and they love to practice reading books on their reading levels. Reading to themselves, each other and to older students is a extremely beneficial. However, I currently do not have a way to organize my classroom leveled books. Many of the books in our classroom are on a higher reading level, which means they are great books for me to read aloud to the students, but aren't books that my kindergartners are able to read by themselves.
Kindergarten students need help making sure that they choose books at their reading levels.
I am requesting book bin storage shelf organizers and book bins, so that my students can easily select books that are on their level. I plan to label the bins with the letters A through F (early reading levels) and fill the bins with books on these levels. Higher level books will be kept in another place in the classroom. Students can only become better readers if they practice reading books on their level. It is important for students to become great readers, since reading is such an important skill.
Thank you for taking the time to read my project idea! My students and I greatly appreciate it.
