My Students

Do you remember when you were in school and loved to play games? Help make using manipulatives for beginning math skills a reality for my students!

My students are energetic and enthusiastic Kindergarten, First and Second graders who come to my classroom for Special Education services in Reading and Math.

They all have a great desire to learn, and benefit from interacting with Mathematics in a tactile way. Many of them come from low income families and don't have a puzzle or other math based activities to practice with at home. My goal is to expose them to Math in a way they can move, touch and feel!

My Project

With these manipulatives my students will be able to not only use a pencil and paper to work on their math skills, but also they will be able to use their hands and tactile senses! When students are able to interact with knowledge in a multi-sensory way they are able to commit more of their knowledge to long term memory. My students love building and learning; having these tools will help them be able to do this independently.

My students come from low income families, and because of their special needs often have difficulty focusing their attention to a task and completing assignments.

Therefore, center and manipulative based learning greatly increase their college readiness skills!
