This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title 1 school on Jacksonville's North side. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students come from diversified backgrounds and my 22 students come to school as blank canvases eager to learn.
This is many of my students first experience with school, a structured classroom and education and I want to provide them with all the resources and opportunities I can to be successful. Some of my students have special needs and could benefit greatly from a wide range of instructional options.
My Project
In kindergartner students are learning print concepts and beginning reading skills. A listening center and interesting books will provide them with the daily opportunities to engage in rigorous texts as they practice their skills.
The students loved when I read "Where the Wild Things Are" and this set gives them the opportunity to listen to it regularly as they practice building the skills to read it on their own.
Students will also be able to practice print concepts such as the front and back of books, directionality, and more. A listening center will be a great additional to our center rotations and encourage the love and joy of reading among my students.
