This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember when kindergarten had more focus on social skills/play time. Kindergarten has become more academic which is why is it so important to incorporate art project into our math and literacy centers and it's how young children work on improving their fine motor skills.
I work in a large city in an urban district, where the poverty level is very high.
Our funding and supplies are limited. Our district is in a big financial crisis. My student surprise me on a daily basis and I have some creative students that are always thinking
My Project
I feel that children learn best while doing hands-on activities and by having art supplies. I like to incorporate a lot of finger painting and sponge painting where the children are using their hands to with the paint instead of paint brushes. I wanted to make orange and yellow pattern pumpkins with strips of of orange and yellow paper, but I didn't have any orange paper so it made it hard to make pumpkins in October. I like make things from shapes by having children cut different shapes out of construction paper and they can make a truck with a rectangle, square, and some circles. By doing a simple project like that, I am incorporating math and fine motor skill. By just having the basic art supplies could make kindergarten a more colorful and brighter year. I love displaying their beautiful bright projects around the room but by not having many art supplies limits projects that I can plan.
Kindergarten should still be fun while learning their letters and shapes.
By having donors donate the art supplies would help the children be creative while learning instead of doing worksheets. My children get excited when they are doing a project and they are so proud of their work. At a young age, I like to encourage them to be creative and the art supplies will help my students to be creative at 5 years old.
