My students need 4 tablets with cases to access their new online reading series.
How would you feel about getting a brand new reading program with no way to read the books or play the learning games because they are all online?
I teach at an elementary school in central Florida.
We have a large population of students that are economically challenged. A full 86% of the students qualify for the free/reduced price lunch program and we are a Title I school.
Our school does not get any extra funding to provide the technology needed in the classroom. Many of my students are very needy and need much in the way of technology resources. These students do not have access to computers or tablets in their homes. They are way behind in the use of technology before they even reach my kindergarten class. My job is to provide my students with the best opportunities to learn.
With the four tablets and cases that I am requesting, the students will be able to access their online reading books and learning games. The learning centers during reading provide the students with time to practice their new skills. The children will be able to practice letter naming, letter sounds, and phonemic awareness activities. They will also be able to listen to stories that are only available online.
We are getting a new curriculum but no technology to support it.
Our schools are not getting properly funded to add new technology to the classrooms. As a classroom teacher, I want my children to have all the tools necessary to learn. Using technology in the classroom is vital. My students would benefit from the addition of tablets to the classroom.
