Kindergarten is a year filled with wonder, excitement and so much learning. In kindergarten I strive to create an environment that stimulating, comforting and conducive to learning. One very important component of my classroom is the book area.
My students are curious, inquisitive, enthusiastic, bright and have a strong desire to learn.
One of the things they are most excited about is learning to read. Learning to read is one of the most important things they will ever learn to do in their lives. My class loves being read to and they love books, in general. It is my goal to not only create a love of learning in each child, but also a lifelong love of books.
My Project
The book collections I am requesting include fiction and nonfiction titles. This will allow the books to be used not only for reader's workshop, but also for science, social studies and math. I requested kindergarten, first grade and second grade collections because the books included in each set are leveled. Having such a variety of levels will allow me to provide more opportunities for children to choose "just right" books that are of interest to them. They will be able to read books at their individual levels in genres and topics that appeal to them.
This project will provide books for the children in my class in varying levels and topics.
By expanding my classroom library with both fiction and nonfiction books, the children will be able to select books that they are interested in at their very own reading level. These book sets will enhance our reader's workshop curriculum and also provide resources for math, science and social studies.
