My students need their very own spiral bound journal with room to draw and write.
This project expired on July 27, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My class is full of 25 energetic children. Over 75% of our school qualifies for free and reduced price lunches. Over half of the kindergarten kids are learning English as a second language. In my class alone, there are five different languages spoken at home.
My students do not have the same early childhood experiences as many other kids.
Because of this lack of exposure, sixteen of my children were considered "at risk" for reading during the first month of school.
My students are eager to learn and I have high expectations for them. My goal is to give the students a strong foundation for their education.
By giving the students relevant practice of basic skills, I am building this foundation.
Daily writing is very important in Kindergarten. The students are just learning to label pictures, add words and then sentences to relay what they want to say. Young writers also need to draw pictures to go with their writing. It helps them to later add more details.
Building confidence in young writers is so very important.
Half of the battle of writing is taking a chance to try writing each sound.
Special journals would encourage the children to write more because it would look like a real book. These journals are of good quality so they will withstand little hands.
