My children are at a precious, yet critical age. The experiences they have in school now, will impact how they feel about school for the rest of their lives. It is so important that they are exposed to fun and engaging learning experiences
My students attend school in a district that has been in academic emergency since 2010.
In addition, 99.4% of the children I serve are economically disadvantaged,
and many of them are forced to deal with hardships that we, as adults, could not bear; yet, they smile.
My Project
These materials will be put to great use in our kindergarten classroom.
Because my students are so young, they need to learn through hands on and engaging activities.
My students need to be able to visualize the concept through interactive activities. The ten frames will be a great tool to teach counting, comparing and addition and subtraction. The magnetic ten frame will serve as a visual for the children and as I show them they can then repeat. The container of counters will be used for one to one correspondence as well as touch and slide counting. The pattern blocks will help with shape recognition. The bingo games will be used as a brain break and allow children to learn basic skills through a game. The dry erase number lines will be a great visual aide. Each student will be able to keep a number line and marker at their seat and use it when counting and/or adding. The place value pocket chart will help us count down to the 100 day of school.
Overall, these materials will be used daily and will be a critical asset to our classroom.
