Every day in our kindergarten classroom is busy busy busy! There's so much to do each day and so many new things to learn. We pack Math, Science, RULER, Handwriting, Reading, Writing, PE, and Art into all of our days.
We have lots of fun learning together in many different ways.
Our school is very community-oriented and we enjoy having parents involved in classroom activities reading centers. Kindergarteners are thirsty for knowledge, have a passion for learning, and are always discovering new things. They especially love any learning that they get to discover independently (with some guidance).
My Project
We currently have a couple of iPads in our classroom, but I would love enough to have a full set for a literacy center. iPads can be used across subject areas and are highly engaging to students. The learning apps on the iPad are nearly endless. I will mainly use the iPads for phonics with apps like Starfall and Raz Kids, but depending on the changing needs of my students I can also use them for handwriting through the Handwriting Without Tears app or for math enrichment. Not only will they be learning within a subject area specific to the app, but they will also learn invaluable information about modern technology.
Some of my students do not have the opportunities to use computers or any other learning technology at home.
I also have many ELL students who would greatly benefit from the highly engaging nature of learning phonics through technology. iPads in the classroom will be a way to teach my students 21st century skills so that they are able to be successful in anything they want to do.
