"Teacher, the center bins fell off the table again and the books and letters are all over the floor!" I teach kindergarten at a school on the south side of Chicago. I spend my days with five and six years olds who are so eager to learn, and to get their hands on everything! That is why permanent bins with exciting hands on materials would be a dream come true for my students. This grant humbly asks for literacy centers and bins for my students. When my students came to school on August 15th some of them had never been in a school environment before. In the two months the students have been coming to school they have realized the importance and fun of learning. They have learned many rules and I have focused much of my time with them on making choices so I can provide them with a foundation for learning. My students enjoy their safe space at school and I have done my best to make their school environment here in Englewood a place where their inquiring minds can grow. I want them not only to enjoy learning and the rewards they have for self-accomplishment but I want them to value their time at school. I want them to make the most of each day and to have the best experience I can give them for eight hours. I have provided them with as many hands-on opportunities for learning as I can possibly think of and with your help I can give them the learning tools they deserve. These items would be a wish come true for my students. Although they are just new to learning in a structured environment I can assure you that each and every bin opens a new world to my students. The time spent in the literacy centers is providing them great tools to begin the reading process. I will set it up so they will be anxious to push themselves to learn. My students and I would so appreciate these items to increase their knowledge and enrich the skills I am working so hard to foster. My children will grow and develop with this hands-on literary center and I greatly appreciate your time in reading my request.
