Our students come from a rural area with many small towns. Our school combines these students into a PK-2 setting. We have 220 students in our building.
Our school is low-income with 100% of the students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
We are a Title I school and have a high number of homeless students.
I work with students grades K-2 in small groups. Many of my kindergarten students come to school prepared and ready to learn, but many of them have no preschool background and are lacking pre-reading skills.
My Project
Due to these unusual circumstances the Kindergarten class of 2020 will not be able to have its usual graduation ceremony.
Earlier this year, I received a Cricut machine through DonorsChoose and thought it would be a great idea to make the graduating kindergarten class t-shirts in celebration of the school year.
We plan on having a drive through graduation where families would be able to drive though and pick up the diplomas. I thought it would be a nice surprise to be able to give them t-shirt to remember this unusual ending to a year.
