Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My elementary school is a school that serves students grades K-5. The school is a Title I school. Every student receives free breakfast and free lunch daily. Many students receive food on the weekend through a school backpack program. My students come to school on a daily basis eager to learn, and always with a smile on their faces. I want to provide for my students an environment of fun learning that also allows them to engage in a variety of learning activities.

My Project

The classroom environment impacts learning. I try to create an open and fun classroom environment that allows students to feel comfortable. Flexible seating allows students to choose how they learn and what feels most comfortable to them.

Flexible seating increases student engagement and provides more opportunities for collaboration with peers.

Right now, I have a couple of options for flexible seating in my classroom, but I would like to provide more students with the opportunity to choose how they best learn. The wobble stools and stability donuts will allow students to have fun while they are working. I want my students to be life-long learners and I believe by letting them choose how and where they work they will take ownership of their learning and it will impact them for the rest of their lives.
