Kindergarten & First Graders Need a Mobile Library
My students need access to all our library's amazing resources. When pushing into the class rooms, I will bring a variety of books with me and be able to check those books out on the laptop.
My students are curious, enthusiastic, and colorful. They get so excited when I enter the classrooms with my limited library cart. They deserve so much more. Many of my students are being raised in single parent homes and need lots of positive attention. They are always eager to read and be read to, so I try to use this time to encourage a life-long love of books, which is so important to their development.
With an appetite not unlike Oliver Twist, the students often ask if I have more books from which they can choose.
However, without a digital library scanner and laptop, I am unable to check out most of our high interest books. It's just not fair!!
My Project
My students need a doc cam, laptop, and scanner on our traveling library station as I move from classroom to classroom. With this technology, more books will be available and I will have the ability to teach students digital library searching skills in order to put books on hold. Ensuring that my students have an enriching library and easy access to as much literature as possible is one of my first priorities.
"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body."
-Joseph Addison
My students will learn sportsmanship, team building, and other interpersonal skills while reading about famous athletes. They will learn categorizing skills using sports equipment, teams, and players.
After reading a variety of music history books, the students will make a photographic timeline of popular composers and their genres. They will understand the connections between musical genres and book genres.
