Mrs. B. from MD is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the opportunity to learn all about seeds and agriculture at a real working farm, and give them produce they will grow themselves and eat at home!

My students come to school ready for a new adventure! Most students live right in the surrounding neighborhood and walk to school. We are in the county, very close to the city. We are a title one school. My students enjoy hands-on, interactive learning.
The classroom is filled with children who can't wait to participate in meaningful learning experiences!
They are interested in the world around them, and need to learn about their world with all of their senses. In our class, kindergarten students are building knowledge through the memorable events of each day. At this age everything is a teachable moment.
It is part of our curriculum to teach about the life cycle of plants, how they grow, and what foods they provide us with. Additionally, we learn about animals and the goods that they can provide. Living in a Suburban area, our students are not exposed to farms or farming. Reading books, watching videos and exploring plants in the classroom helps to teach students, but doesn't take the place of experiencing the learning first hand.
This trip will turn our students into Farmers as they learn to identify fruits, vegetables and seeds and plant their very own garden!
Each child will plant a garden to take home. They will receive directions for how to transplant their seeds at home. Their gardens have the potential of growing over $50 worth of produce for their family. Farmer Stan will introduce them to the farm animals and talk about the goods and services they provide. They will see real beehives and learn about how the honey is made. Students will discover the important part bees play in agriculture and get to take some honey home with them.
