Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have twenty-five kindergarten students who are eager to learn and work hard every day. This has translated into success for the students and the school as a whole. Our school has received an "A" consistently for the last several years and we have very high rates of success on state assessments. Our school was awarded the National Blue Ribbon award in 2011.
The majority of my students are eligible for free lunch and more than half of my class speaks English as a second language.
My kindergarten students need a lot of hands-on activities and visual support in order to learn new concepts.
My Project
My kindergarten class loves to be creative. With a variety of art supplies, my students will have more opportunities to be creative in different ways. The peel and stick shapes can be used to make mosaics, add to collages, and much more! The scratch art paper is another medium that allows my students a new opportunity to make something while developing their fine motor skills. My students need a place to dry their art creations. The drying rack will allow my students to dry their creations independently.
Kindergarteners have a hard time grasping time and knowing how much time is left.
The timers will help my students with transitions and managing time when they are in centers, working independently during workshop time, while sitting in the cozy corner or in “stop and think”. They can independently turn the egg timers over and see how much time is left and when time is up. The visual classroom timer will allow students to see how much time is left and when time is close to being up with each color change.
