Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For many children, Kindergarten is their first experience in school. We learn new things daily. My parents want and need to support this learning at home but I cannot provide them the resources necessary without a way to copy and send home practice templates and informative newsletters. We need help!
I am teaching in a kindergarten monolingual class in a high-need, low income community.
My population consists of 25 children and many are English Language Learners. This is my 12th year teaching. My students have multiple learning styles and are at different stages in their learning. This usually requires more than one activity or practice template per literacy and math lesson.
My Project
Parents, whether they know it or not, play a huge role in their child's education. I welcome and encourage them to extend what is going on in the classroom to their at-home lives as well. I have many parents who are willing to do this but just don't have either the information or background knowledge necessary to help. On a regular basis I like to send home translated newsletters informing parents of what new letters and sounds we are learning, literacy genres we are studying, math concepts to practice and a variety of things they can do with their children to support what is being learned in school. I also need to send home on a weekly basis fun and engaging practice templates for the children to sharpen their skills in reading, writing, and math and for parents to have examples of our learning. That is why I am asking for your help in purchasing a multifunction copy machine and three replacement toner cartridges.
The reality is that schools are in a crisis with budget cuts.
Machines have broken down and there are no funds to get them fixed, therefore no copies! Learning cannot only take place at school but needs to be supported at home as well. Thank you for your support and consideration!
