Kindergarten Chromebooks

My students need Chromebooks to enable my class to a 2:1 student to Chromebook ratio in our classroom. Each Chromebook needs a wireless mouse and mouse pad.

My Students

In kindergarten, we are working and learning together. A large part of this learning is in motion. We investigate, explore, research, analyze, and question. These are just a few things that my students do each day in my classroom. They are willing to work hard, make mistakes, and persevere to grow into lifelong learners.

Times are changing and the way kids learn is changing.

“If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow.” John Dewey.

Our school serves approximately one-third of our students free or reduced-price meals each day. I am a passionate learner myself and spend time reading and learning about children and the way they are changing in today’s technological world where they have the information world at their fingertips. To me it is critical to find ways to spark the engagement of five and six-year-olds to reach their diverse learning styles while meeting our rigorous curricular and social emotional needs and closing the gap that lies between them financially by providing learning opportunities for all students equally in my classroom.

My Project

I am requesting five Chromebooks with a wireless mouse and mouse pad for my classroom. Throughout the previous two school years we have been able to have Chromebooks added over the course of two other Donor's Choose projects and generous donors who believe in technology integration in schools. With this project addition, our class could be 2:1 students to Chromebooks. This would enable our students to work collaboratively in their partners to research, learn, practice, and even play! A technology driven world is the only world five and six year-olds know. It is important to me to bring tech into their lives at school when it is appropriate and adds to the lesson itself.

Becoming a responsible digital citizen is critical, even at the youngest ages of our students, and in some cases their best opportunity to learn these life skills of maneuvering a digital world happens within the four walls of my classroom.

Integrating technology using Chromebooks is an effective way to connect with students of multiple learning styles. Additionally, students can enhance interactions and collaboration with their classmates. The opportunities 2:1 Chromebooks could allow me to provide students are endless. Not only are children naturally curious about the world around them and are information seekers in a time where the information has always been right at their fingertips, it can still be used for in class rewards and incentives for children in which this extrinsic motivator allows them to thrive in their most natural zone.
