My Students

“Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.” ― R.J. Palacio, Wonder My kindergarten students are energetic learners with a desire to be kind and caring citizens. Their journey to greatness begins today.

My students are a wonderful group of kindergarten students at a public school in California.

They are inquisitive and have a strong desire to learn. These highly energetic and excited students are full of wonder and awe each day as they walked into the classroom. Our entire school promotes positive characteristics by encouraging our students to be kind and compassionate citizens of our school, community, state, country, and planet. Instilling positive, socially-minded characteristics in our youngest learners will allow our school to flourish with our mission of showing respect, making good decisions, solving problems, and practicing kindness everyday.

My Project

I am requesting literature selections with main characters who focus on being kind, problem solvers. I will apply the selections as a springboard to character education activities for our kindergarten students. The main characters in these series of books are positive character-models for our youngest learners that experience many situations that are similar to my students’ lives. These characters solve problems and exhibit compassion in positive and creative ways. Using the books and the reading and writing easel, students will have the opportunity to compose narratives about characters who show how to solve problems and be caring friends. Students will also use our literature selections to role-play scenarios that happen at school and home and how they could solve problems or show kindness themselves.

Kindergarten students emulate the actions and words of kids and adults.

By providing opportunities for the students to read and write about characters who elicit the behavior we desire our students to emulate and instill the qualities of courage, kindness, and friendship, we can better shape our students' actions and words. Your donation will start my kindergarten students on the road to courage, kindness, friendship, character qualities which will lead us to greatness!
