Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The building blocks of a great education begin in kindergarten! All children deserve a great education -- and part of every school day is recess, a time for movement, imagination, friendship-building, and block building!!!
The challenges posed by limited school budgets in our urban school district should not mean limiting a child's access to a stimulating recess experience!
For many of our students, playing outside at school recess is one of the only times they are able to be outside. Therefore, having a wide selection of hands-on learning materials that engage the brain at this time of day is essential.
My Project
From an educator's perspective, the building blocks for recess time provide a venue for the exercise of the imagination, an opportunity to sort by shape, size, and color, and a place to experiment with ideas regarding form and balance. Additionally, building with large blocks is a social activity that allows for the practice of language skills -- particularly important for our English language learners. From a child's perspective, though, building large-scale constructions with these requested blocks is simply a whole lot of fun!
Building just about anything requires lots of bricks -- whether what is being built is a kindergarten recess castle or a great kindergarten experience at recess.
By supporting this proposal, you have the chance to support both! Thank you.
