Kindergarten Birdwatchers Need Binoculars!

My students need 22 binoculars in order to gain birding skills while attending various birdwatching field trips.

My Students

My kindergarten students cannot fully develop birdwatching skills without having immediate access to their own set of binoculars specifically designed for their small hands and faces.

My kindergarten students attend public school in a K-8 charter in a large west coast urban metropolis.

Like the city itself, they represent a diversity of racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. But they all have something in common, too. They come from families who value a progressive, hand-on education that emphasizes the arts and sciences.

My Project

This coming spring I am taking my class of 22 kindergartners on field trips to various parks, estuaries, beaches, and other locales and teaching them the explicit skill of birdwatching--which absolutely requires the use of good binoculars like the ones I am requesting.

I believe that it is more important than ever for students to feel connected to nature.

By teaching my students to become birdwatchers, I am helping them gain a better understanding of the very close connection between people and the environment they live in.
