My Students

I am passionate about literacy and writing in my classroom. I have called my kindergarten students "writers" from the moment they walked in the door. Even if they were only scribbling in their writing journal, they were writers with something to say. Now they are writing real stories!

My classroom is diverse in both ethnicity and economic status.

We have second language learners and students who come from literacy poor homes. The beauty of our classroom is they all have an equal chance to learn to become great writers and by golly - 105 days into the school year - they are all writing stories!

My Project

We need an electric stapler and stapler to complete the Writing Workshop Publishing Station. Now that my kindergarten students are writing real stories, we are creating a Writing Workshop Publishing Station. I type up their published story, then they illustrate it, make a cover, and staple it together all by themselves! They take such pride in their published work. We just need an electric stapler because their little hands aren't strong enough to use a manual stapler on their 1-5 page book.

This publishing step is so very important to inspire students to follow through and have a published work to be proud of and share.

They simply glow when they have their bound book in their little hands. Thank you for any help you can provide.
