Every day, I have the joy of creating memories of success, failure, and perseverance while teaching kindergartners the joys of learning.
My kindergartners want to be the best that they can, yet our state is 49th in school funding.
We are a Title I school, where everyone receives free breakfast and most receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come from trauma-filled backgrounds, low-income families, and will be the first to go to college.
Despite these struggles, my 5-year-old scholars are still inquisitive. They are full of questions, from the iconic "Why is the sky blue?" to the question I was asked the other day, "Why do apples come in different colors?" I want my students to further their curiosity by learning how to read, write, do the math, and be knowledgeable about the world. Furthermore, I want them to go home and share their learning with their families.
My Project
My school is shut down for the year, so I am requesting engaging resources to use in distant learning for my five and six year old scholars
Every child in my class deserves the best remote learning experience as possible.
That being said, every learning in my class is at a different spot, so I need resources to match their needs.
Activities I am requesting include phonemic awareness activities- oral manipulation of sounds has been research-proven to be an indicator of literacy success.
Some of my students still need practice with the alphabet, other students need work on sight words to increase their reading fluency ability.
All students need work on nonfiction text, the comprehension focus of our fourth school quarter.
My students also need math resources to do at home, from counting on to bigger numbers and comparing numbers.
Thank you for supporting my kindergarten students in this unusual time!
