60% of the students in my class lost their homes and belongings in Hurricane Harvey. In addition, they lost their classroom too. We began school a month later than planned at a local church in town.
My students are brave and adaptable.
These are just a few words I could use to describe them. They have embraced this year and have made the best out of the traumatic time in their short little lives. I cannot say enough good things about this sweet little class.
My Project
After our school was flooded in Hurricane Harvey, we have been operating with limited supplies. This includes our construction paper and printer paper. Most of our paper got wet and molded when our classrooms flooded.
I am writing this paper project for our entire grade level.
We will have 6 kindergarten teachers next year. We usually roll over left over paper from the year before to start off the next school year. That cannot happen this year. We don't even have enough paper to finish out our art projects for this year.
This project will give each teacher enough paper to finish this school year out without having to pick and choose one projet over another. Each teacher would get 3 packs of each color I have ordered and we will equally split the printer paper. This amount of paper will allow each teacher to make their classes' graduation hats for the last day of school. Also, there are multiple art projects that take place in kindergarten classrooms every school day and they all need construction paper to complete.
The students will be able to learn through the arts while making creative and developmentally appropriate projects with this paper supply.
