Our room is full of energy! The class is composed of 24 brilliant developing minds who work hard individually, but also have big hearts and help lift one another up. However, entire our grade level is made up of 72 spirited, spunky, and lovable kinders.
Our school's student body comes from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with over 55% of our school's population qualifying for free or reduced lunches.
Our classroom is also so diverse that we have home languages that include Chinese, Burmese, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and English in room 1 alone! Therefore, I make it my goal to provide a safe, welcoming, and accommodating setting, both in the classroom and out on the yard, for all of our students. I want to encourage an eagerness to learn and I try to push my students to not only challenge themselves academically, but to also learn empathy and promote inclusiveness of all kinder friends while socializing and playing with each other.
My Project
In our classroom, we are always moving and grooving, whether it be during circle time on the rug, listening to music as we complete our work at our desks, or working cooperatively in small group centers. They sure like to move around a lot!
Some of our kinder friends are still learning to control their bodies and often work standing up, leaning over desks, or with their feet all over the place.
Having the option to sit on the Gaiam Kids Stay-N-Play Children's Balance Balls and the Trideer Flexible Seating Exercise Yoga Balancing Ball will help build these tiny thinkers core muscles as they are able to focus while still sitting in unconventional seats. We have kinder friends who would really benefit from different types of seating and may be able to concentrate more during desk work or small group work because they won't be confined to regular school chairs.
Balancing the mind and body are important in our class, so having 12 brand new hula hoops for all 3 kindergarten classes would make 72 kindergarten friends so excited and happy! We had to discard over 5 hula hoops this year alone because they were so weathered with age. We currently only have less than 3 for all the students to share at recess; 12 more would make outdoor play even more fun! 3 Mac Sports Collapsible Folding Wagons for our outdoor toys/snacks would also help keep us more organized and we'd be able to finally retire the 10-year-old plastic wagon we are currently using to hold our snacks.
